The Power of Planning, Organisation and De-Cluttering.
Want to know one BIG thing I learnt in 2017 that will change my 2018 dramatically?
The power of planning, organisation and de-cluttering.
There is much written on these topics. I have been an avid reader. My theory is if you take at least one thing from each book and implement it – it is worth the investment of the time and money in each book.
Many of us feel we are time poor, however we all have the same number of minutes in every day. Utilising our time better is the only way we can get more of it as time is a finite thing. So I put my ‘time’ where my mouth is – and decided to make more conscious use of my time and energy last year.
My main personal goals last year were
- To lose weight and begin my exercise habit (tick)
- To utilise my time more effectively for work and fun (Tick)
- To have 12 holidays without my productivity reducing (Tick)
- Get off Facebook (Tick)
My Work Goals last year were
- To improve myself through learning and reading, to improve my ability to help my clients (tick)
- To dramatically upgrade my Debt reduction program (tick – My Big Money Goal launched this year!)
- To refresh and energise Think Money – both client-services and the business itself (tick)
Organisation and setting goals therefore are big things if you want to improve your current position – whether you want to improve your financial situation, your career or your general wellbeing – getting organised and having a plan worked really well for me last year. It has set me up for a brilliant 2018 and I will continue to work the plan hard this year.
You may remember I had a mini-goal last year of reading 52 books. While I went off track and didn’t reach my target, (I also lost my list and a number of other disorganised faux pas occurred!! Opps!) the upside is I read a mighty number of books and I am still reading.
New year – new list of mini goals!
From my reading, I discovered and implemented many great things. The top three were in the planning, organisation and decluttering areas (still very much a work in progress on the last one)
My intention over the next 12 months is to implement more and more of these three things in my life as they have been so helpful in improving every area of my life. I am going to be implementing these into our Think Money programs as well as I feel it will help accelerate your results as much as it has mine. It has certainly worked for me. I am happier, healthier and more productive than any time in my life and these results are mostly thanks to the books I have been reading.
So… what were my favourite books? (I lost my list remember!)
So off the top of my head and in no particular order (as they say on Tele)
- Mini Habits by Steven Guise has to be right up there in my favourites list.
- ‘The ONE thing’ Gary Keller was inspiring – and stopped all thoughts of multitasking
- The Stop Doing list – written by a good friend of mine, Matt Malouf – excellent reading.
- The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up – Marie Kondo – current favourite
- The Referral Engine – John Jantsch – brilliant guy, this is an all-time favourite of mine – I listen to this book on audio a few times a year – great for business!
A book that disappointed – ‘Unshakable’ Tony Robbins. Anticipating great things, I purchased it 4 times (once accidently) a hard copy, an audible.com copy and a kindle twice – one on a wrong account(!), before starting to read it, thinking it was going to be brilliant and unfortunately it was almost totally based on an American experience regarding US tax rules, the US stock market and such things that are totally different in Australia.
Another big find for me was my ‘Full Focus Planner’ I purchased it online from Michael Hyatt – and it is a quarterly planner/diary with an amazing difference! I use it every day and I am madly and passionately in love with it and what it’s doing for my organisation and planning. It is an OCD’s dream diary! (Next time we catch up ask me to show it to you if you like the sound of that.)
What’s on your agenda for 2018?
Now the big fat guy has gone back home to feed his reindeer and get ready for another year, it’s time to dust off the tinsel and plan the year ahead.
I am ready to help you give it a red hot go! Time flies, so together we can make the most of it. When you look back on 2018, I don’t want you to be disappointed with your results – now is the time to get organised, set some goals and make a plan!
We have so much planned and so many new things happening I know you will have the opportunity to make 2018 your best year yet!
My BIG Money Goal, our 12 week challenges and mini sprints are just the tip of the iceberg. We have multiple layers of goal setting, wealth retreats and so much more – can’t wait to tell you all about them!
Looking forward to seeing you really soon!
